Gallery Revisited 2005

Revisited
2003-2004

July 2008 marks the next phase of Gallery Revisited…seemingly abruptly closing its doors at the Silver Lake location. It is a bittersweet decision, because we were all looking forward to Project Forefront and Ongoing here, but alas, we were losing our location … again.

In the mean time, please keep an eye on our involvement. This new direction has the good intention to pursue independent curatorial projects, facilitate and provide art dialog and inspire collecting despite the lack of the white walls.

"My history with the gallery is peppered with the scenarios and incidences that make life amusing, remarkable and non-boring to say the least. Each of us has a unique story and that my friend, is what makes it all worth-while. Actions may no longer speak louder than words and I am still not convinced that art speaks for itself…life on the other hand, is indescribable. And so, I suppose, such is art sometimes." — Leora Lutz

Leora Lutz opened the gallery Revisited in November 2003 with 2 back-to-back Inaugural exhibits featuring 11 artists in each show, 2 weeks apart.

The location was in a 9-story building in Los Angeles China Town, with a view of the Gold Line going by. The New York-feel of the gallery was an immediate curiosity amongst the winding halls neighbored by seamstress shops. A strong curatorial program gleaned press recognition & sustainable productivity. Due to corporate business developers, and the discovery of 3 tons of illegal fireworks on the 7th floor, Revisited was forced to move.

Displaced, Leora was then invited to bring her gallery expertise to Bamboo Lane, a space that was previously used for independent projects & sometimes occupied by an artists’ collective and focused on Asian American artists. The joint venture was known as Bamboo Lane/Revisited, a duality between the two merging galleries.

During Leora’s stay as Gallery Director of Bamboo Lane/Revisited she continued to feature compelling exhibitions with recognition from Artweek, LA Weekly's Peter Frank, Angeleno Magazine & LA Times David Pagel, amongst others. In addition she nurtured outside relationships with institutions & organizations such as Venice Art Walk, Project by Project, Tarfest, LACMA Sales & Rental gallery, MOCA Contemporaries & LA Art Association.

February 2006, Lutz moved the newly coined, Gallery Revisited to the verging neighborhood of Silver Lake near East Los Angeles. Furthering accessibility, the space itself is fronted by a boutique, flanked by a bistro, foot traffic is prolific and art can be viewed 7 days a week. Lutz implemented unique gallery concepts such as The Comment Box, the Open View Back Room/ Salon and the continued use of the Modular Unit/Open View Flat File. Prolific personal gallery blogging and unique press angles achieved successful results including the likes of Holly Meyers for LA Times, Shana Nys-Dambrot for Flavorpill, Peter Frank for LA Weekly, d-visible, Beautiful Decay to name a few.

May 2008 began Project Forefront & Ongoing and Project Journalism Revisited. All solo shows were cancelled and 12 artists will be exhibiting ongoing new work throughout the year simultaneously in the Main Gallery. In addition, a conceptual "in house art reviewer" is using journalism as her art form.
