Pixnit

Pollination

View Exhibit     View Press Release

The PIXNIT Campaign is an international project executed to challenge assumptions about graffiti and the urban environment. PIXNIT Productions has been "Pollinating" with large scale floral stencils called "Spores". The Spores bring the comforting motifs of domestic decorations to the otherwise commonly noticed banal exteriors, shy alleyways and cross-walk strips. PIXNIT crosses the line between classical painting and traditional street painting.

There is an irony in her decision to perpetuate motifs that push the literal landscape into that of the conceptual artistic landscape by utilizing a message that is an inherently beautiful design. By doing this, the conversations about defacing property, freedom of expression and position on the use of public spaces vs. private property become blurred and confusing to those who want to argue against it.

The image choices and colors are varied and designed in such a way that the final result lends two kinds of intention; one for the purpose of doing it and the other to leave behind imagery that feels integral visually with the surface and the surrounding architecture. Thus perpetuating the question as to who put it there in the first place. Furthermore posing the question, "Is it such a bad thing"?

She works alone most of the time, however, the winter of 2006 there will be a mass distribution to teams and individuals who can then participate in bringing the project to a larger public domain. Stencils will be used all over the world, in addition to stickers.

In the spring of 2007 she will tour throughout Europe including London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris installing her work. All work will be photo-documented and individual participants are encouraged to Pollinate their towns and send the photo documentation to Pixnit Productions.

In addition to the street work, PIXNIT works on canvas and paper, creating one-of-a-kind paintings that combine elements from her street art into a widely accessible format. Many of these original pieces have fine-line drawings that cannot be produced on the street, giving audiences a view into an even more delicate side of Pixnit's work as a whole.

PIXNIT has worked as a graffiti artist since 1987.
